As a general rule, it is so very important to be happy in your home-based
work. When you are living in the same place you work, you do not want to take
any opportunity that comes along because you run the risk of living and working
in a unhappy environment. You might as well go out and get a job if you were to
do that!
Do you follow your passion when looking for work-at-home opportunities?
Karen
North, owner of Words & Graphics (http://www.wordsngraphics.com) said
"I knew I enjoyed creating great looking documents for business
professionals, so that is where I started. I tried to work at the things I liked
best, once in a while taking on a job that didn't inspire me much. But I have
never taking a job that didn't feel right to me or that involved material I
didn't feel comfortable with. Now that I have a larger client base, I am really
doing the things I like most. Along the way, I have expanded my repertoire into
areas I never dreamed of working in when I began my business."
For making goals to be a home-based working mom,
I always recommend you sit
down over the course of a week or a month and list out your passions.
Carol
Kasik, R.N. and Distributor for Viacreme for Women (healthresource@home.com) did
just that, "At the beginning, I looked at all the opportunities that I came
across. I also did a list of things I like, a list of my skills and my passions.
I even asked myself what I wanted to be when I grew up!" Additionally,
Carol conducted a lot of research, "When I was first introduce to this
product, I automatically was interested, so that was a good start. After the
initial product interest, I took my business skills and did a quick market
analysis. I also asked myself if I could sell and promote this product; so
basically some inner questionning, to make sure I wasn't just jumping on the
first thing because I needed to make an income and wanted to keep myself busy. I
did some serious thinking, even tested the field, by promoting the product
before I was a distributor."
It is not always possible to be so thorough when looking for work. "I
basically took anything that came along at first, thinking that I would never be
able to make a living working from home unless I did so." says Patricia
Cobe, co-author of Mompreneurs: A Mother's Practical Step-by-Step Guide to
Work-at-Home Success. "But as I became more savvy and delivered good
results for clients, I got fussier. Now I propose projects and say
"no" to work I don't want to do."
Starting your home-based business is no easy task, and after you decide you
want to work from home, you must decide what you want to do.
There is no right
or wrong answer to the process involved in making this decision. But, I'd like
to share a little bit of wisdom if you are looking for home-based work: go for
the gusto! You can start with a passion or you can start with the desire to earn
an income from home--but, you must give it your all no matter which route you
take! Janet Drez, author of A Perfect Solution, http://www.aperfectsolution.com
says it best, "My passion for starting a business at home came from the
deep desire to be home with my kids."
