10 Effective Ways to Relax

It can be difficult in today’s busy world to de-stress and take time for yourself. Whether you have five minutes or five hours to spend some time on self-care, here are a variety of suggestions for ways to lessen anxiety and feel more relaxed.

1. Get Organized

Organization can do wonders for your peace of mind. Even something as simple as neatening your desk or cleaning your bedroom can make things feel a little more under control. Take five or ten minutes each day to tackle a part of your living space that isn’t tidy and you’ll quickly feel calmer.

2. Try CBD

CBD pills have become extremely popular in recent years as a natural remedy. CBD or Cannabidiol is a compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike marijuana, however, CBD does not contain the chemical THC and cannot make you feel “high.” Studies have suggested that CBD can be effective in combating depression and anxiety, relieving pain, encouraging relaxation, reducing insomnia and treating neurological diseases. If you are looking for a way to relax, there are many CBD options on the market, including oils, lotions, gummies and vaporizers.

3. Get Some Exercise

Exercise is a great way to de-stress and relieve tension, although certain activities are more relaxing than others. Try yoga, which reduces physical tension and blood pressure while encouraging mindfulness. Tai Chi is another lesser known form of exercise which was developed from Chinese martial arts. This type of exercise uses flowing movement to encourage a mindful attitude. Walking can also be incredibly beneficial. It reduces your risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes, which are all conditions that can be caused by stress. Whatever exercise regimen you choose to follow, make sure that it is something that you will enjoy and can commit to every week. This could be as simple as dancing around your house while listening to music, going for a swim or playing a game of tennis with a friend.

4. Utilize Aromatherapy

Using pleasant and relaxing scents can turn your home into an oasis of peace and calm. You can purchase a scented candle or essential oils in most stores or online. Choose scents that will make you feel good, such as lavender, chamomile, jasmine, rose, vetiver, patchouli or bergamot. Be careful when handling any essential oils and, if you decide to use them for body care, make sure they are diluted in oil or lotion.

5. Listen to Music

Studies have shown that music encourages relaxation. Just listening to a song that you love can put you in a better mood and turn your whole day around. There are many relaxing playlists available online, although you may want to simply listen to your favorite genre.

6. Meditate

Meditation and mindfulness are effective ways to stay in the present moment and reduce anxiety. Take five or ten minutes each morning to focus on your breathing or try “box breathing” when you feel stressed. This simple technique consists of inhaling through your nose for a count of four, holding your breath for a count of four, and exhaling for another four seconds.

7. Journal

Journaling is a great way to organize your thoughts and express your emotions, which, in turn, can reduce stress and anxiety. Aim for five or ten minutes of journaling each day. Being self-aware can help you get the most out of your writing time. Try to identify negative thought patterns and any worries you may have. If you are finding it difficult to deal with any upsetting issues that arise, you may want to schedule an appointment with a counselor to help you find positive ways to deal with them.

8. Laugh

Laughing is a fun way to relax and escape from your worries for a while. Watch a comedy special, look for funny memes or share a humorous story with a friend.

9. Disconnect

Electronic devices are wonderful ways to stay connected with the world, but can also encourage feelings of stress. Take a few minutes or a few hours to shut off your phone and walk away from your computer. Go for a walk, enjoy time in nature or spend time with a loved one.

10. Prioritize Alone Time

Finally, sometimes you just need a little time for yourself. Take a bath, get a coffee, head to the spa or grab a nap.
