What inspired you to start this business? How and why did you start your business?
Mathew Cooper: I started Cooper Marketing Unlimited in 2022 while I was working as a Journeyman Glazier and Foreman at a local construction company. Throughout my more than 15 years in the construction sector, I learned a great deal about how construction companies work. I noticed there are many common problems that construction businesses face on a regular basis. It could be a lack of work to keep their crews busy, not enough trustworthy employees to get the job done, unreliable suppliers that keep them waiting on material, and many other issues.
This realization inspired me to create a company with the goal of solving these problems and helping construction and home services companies reach their full potential.
What were the biggest challenges you faced in starting your business?
Mathew Cooper: One of the biggest challenges I faced in creating my business was learning how to take the skills and experience I gained in the construction industry and apply them in a new and very different way. I believe overcoming this challenge has put me in the unique position of being one of the few marketers with real-world construction experience and knowing how to target the most profitable jobs to grow a company quickly.
How are you marketing your business?
Mathew Cooper: Being a digital marketer, I advertise my business online the same way I would advertise for a client. We typically advertise on Facebook and Google. However, we are capable of advertising on almost any platform you can imagine. We are constantly on the lookout for new technologies that can be valuable tools for us and our clients.
How are you balancing your business with your personal life?
Mathew Cooper: One of the biggest reasons I decided to start my business was because I wanted to spend more time with my family. As a construction worker, I spent most of my time on the job site. It made it hard to see my family as much as I would have liked, and when I was home, I was too exhausted to enjoy my time with them.
I started to research new opportunities, but I didn’t want to leave construction completely. I was lucky to find a way to be my own boss and have the flexibility necessary to be present for my family while still being involved in the construction sector. I actually work more total hours these days, but I’m able to do it in a way that gives me more freedom and allows me to be there when my family needs me.
What lessons have you learned so far about being an entrepreneur?
Mathew Cooper: Some lessons I learned along the way:
- Don’t be afraid to fail. Each failure is an opportunity to learn, which will get you closer to success.
- Don’t quit. Just because you aren’t successful immediately doesn’t mean you won’t be eventually. The only way you truly fail is if you stop trying.
- Think about things in terms of months or years, not days.
- Take what you learn and apply it. You won’t really know if you can do something until you try to do it.
- Stay positive, and don’t burn bridges. You never know who you might need to lean on for support in the future.
How do you see the business five years from now?
Mathew Cooper: 5 years from now, I would like to see my business helping countless other business owners achieve success. We want to be known for solving problems, whatever they may be. We aren’t successful unless our clients are, and that will be the core principle that we always follow.

Some advice I would give other entrepreneurs just starting out:
