Etsy is an excellent platform for creative people that would like to share their beautiful handcrafted items with the world. If you are launching an Etsy shop to sell your handmade products online, what are the first steps to take to make sure your online store will be a success?

1. Choose a Name for Your Shop

First and foremost, select a great name for your shop – this will be your brand, your visitors will recognize you and your products with this name. You may need to use an Etsy username checker to ensure the name you have set your heart on is still available.

If it is not, let this not be a stumbling block for you in creating your shop. Go ahead and think of a variation like adding an extra word as “Shop” or maybe adding your initials. You can think of a better name later and change the name of your shop altogether.

2. Prepare All Necessary Assets for Your Shop

This includes all information related to your products. It is reasonable to collect all your assets before starting your shop, like photos of your products and product descriptions. Be ready with the pricing. And you need to add your banking details for the collection of funds.

3. Set Clear Goals for Your Business

As with every kind of business, an Etsy shop can be overwhelming if you do not have small, time-bound, attainable goals. But when you do, it can be a stress-free journey.

So set clear objectives and work towards them in small steps. Maybe you would like to create one new item each week, take a photo and upload it to the shop? Or perhaps you would like to create 2-3 posts on social media per week to promote your Etsy shop? A short video that portrays the making of some beautiful item?

If you have a journey of thousands of miles, what matters is the present step and not to worry too much about the ultimate goal.

4. Get Discovered with Keywords

When people go on Etsy searching for something, they usually have a specific item and type in the search box one or more keywords or phrases.

Brainstorm all possible words and phrases related to your product and ensure your descriptions have them. Of course, they should sound natural and not robotic.

You can plug these keywords into the product tags and titles in the listings editor.

Once a week, check your Stats to see which of those are working and which you need to replace.

5. Make Your Products Stand out with Awesome Photos

Many Etsy sellers do not have access to professional photography services. This is why you need to master some basics of product photography to present your products correctly. It is not a good idea to offer your visitors photos that are low quality, blurred, or with improper lighting. It does not take so much study to start making good photos of your products, increasing your sales!

6. Curate Details

Have you ever been in a shop that was so well-decorated that it created a mood in you, and you just felt like you wanted to buy everything inside? You can create such an enticing atmosphere by curating every detail of your shop. Your products should look related to each other and transmit the same spirit.

You can have an extensive collection of products with a different price ranges to appeal to different customers. Carefully create your banner so that it matches your products and your style. If you are not a graphic designer, you may ask a professional to do it for you, so it looks well-curated and inspiring.

7. Avoid the Trap of Perfectionism

Wanting things to be perfect can be a tricky trap. Please do not fall into it! It is essential to start somewhere, set the wheel turning, and improve how you do things. But remember, done is better than perfect!

So now that you have this guideline, do not wait any further; start preparing for your Etsy launch and make your shop grow and thrive!
