Dear Allan,
In business, whether you are in the Internet or not, the white pages and
the Yellow pages have always been an effective way of advertising. Although
the results may not be readily measurable, many or most people depend on the
telephone directory to find companies catering to a particular category. In
fact, the bigger your boxed advertising is, the more that people will call or
communicate with you. I can't explain why, but people tend to trust companies
with bigger ads. Possibly because of the image of being BIG and Reliable being
projected by the ad. Do you agree?
The effectiveness of advertising in the white pages depends on the nature of
your business. There are some businesses where people's first impulse when
looking for companies is to use the telephone directory. When finding a music
teacher or a gardening company, people may check out the White or Yellow
Pages.
Even with a lot of repeat and referral customers, your posting in the white
or yellow pages will be worthwhile. It is a relatively inexpensive method of
getting your business out there. Business owners must always be on a look-out
for ways to market their business and look for ways to make it easy for
potential clients to find them.
I would recommend that you pursue what you have in mind. For increased
effectiveness, try getting a reasonably sized box ad.
Good luck!
