In an interesting turn of events the vast majority of new Mac computers sold
today are to first-time Mac users switching from a PC to a Mac, this leap of
faith does not come without some uncertainty and level of relearning
involved, so why are so many people Switching to Mac?
(news continued below)
Some might say Microsoft's new Vista operating system and it's dependance
on all new hardware has played a roll in all of this. What about those great
Mac vs PC ads, they're not only funny but can also be painfully true. Not a
day goes by without hearing something abut an iPod or an iPhone and let's
not forget about the PC Viruses, Spyware, Windows crashing, maintenance and
bi-yearly re-installations.
Now Apple isn't just sitting back taking advantage of Windows
shortcomings. New Macs can do so much these days! Macs even run Windows if
need be, (the MacBook Pro was quoted by 'PCWorld.com" as being the fastest
Vista Laptop of 2007). Macs speak PC, they read PC media and communicate
well on PC networks, Macs have their own killer programs like iLife, iWork
Final Cut and Logic Pro that all just work because Apple is in control of
the entire project top to bottom - Hardware, Operating System and
Applications, no blaming it on the other guy cause they are the other guy.
Apple users are the most customer loyal in the industry sometimes referred
to as cult-like! Apple has long been know for its user friendliness, this
remains true to date.
It seems like there are an overwhelming amount of reasons for Switching
to Mac, so why doesn't everyone have one? The fact remains Apple is still a
niche market and that's not a bad thing. Apple's minority status has helped
to keep them focused, motivated and out of the cross-hairs from viruses and
hackers. Apple prides itself on producing a no-compromise product, many of
Apple's trademark programs require a level of performance entry level PC's
just can't match. Performance and features do come at a cost and for that
reason Apple just doesn't make a product specific for the business market
who is looking to buy a bunch of no-frills entry level PC's for office
related work only.
The latest Web-browser stats indicates Apple market-share at around 8%, an
increase of almost double from a little over a year ago. I strongly believe
Apple has a long way to go before they top out. It comes down to who really
benefits from using a Mac and that figure at-least in my mind would include
the majority of home based users as well as many business computer users.
