Flashlight and work light performance and design has been radically altered
since the introduction of LED (light emitting diode) technology to the
portable lighting industry in the past few years. As LED efficiency
improves, the result is improved brightness and run time in lighting tools
such as inspection lights, worklights, shop lighting and of course in flash
lights. According to Led Worklight company spokesman, J. L. Armstrong,
Lumapower, a Hong Kong based lighting technology manufacturer, through its
Lumacraft and Lumahunter brands, has been at the forefront of LED flashlight
development.

Mr. Armstrong continues, "LEDs are the light source of the future.
Incandescent bulbs waste as much as 90% of the electricity they consume they
burn by generating heat instead of light. Although fluorescent bulbs are
more efficient than ordinary incandescent bulbs, they contain highly toxic
mercury. Also, both incandescent and fluorescent bulbs are fragile - they
break easily and compared to LEDs, they have a short life, and in flashlight
and work light applications, this can be a nuisance and expensive."
The new flashlight designs from Lumapower promise to resolve
dependability issues experienced in the work place by industrial and
automotive tradesmen, as well as emergency services workers and first
response teams. With a projected life expectancy in excess of 50,000 hours,
and a construction that makes it almost unbreakable, the LED does not need
to ever be replaced. The amount of intense white light available from these
new LED light engines is also adjustable by the operator, who can change the
intensity of the light setting in order to extend the operating life of the
batteries. On lower light output settings, run time of these flashlights can
be extended for up to 10 hours or more.
