- Much like the
deregulation of long distance telephone services and resulting savings
achieved as consumers choose more price competitive service providers, a
similar transition is poised to occur this month but in a much larger
revenue space, energy.(article continued below ...)
As a deregulated energy state, California represents the 7th largest
economy in the world, with 13+ million households and nearly 3 million
businesses as potential customers. Whereas telecom deregulation represented
about $80+ billion, energy deregulation is estimated to be almost seven
times larger at approximately $540 billion.
Financial relief to California
businesses via energy savings could not come at a more welcome time. As
California enters winter and consumption of natural gas trends higher,
natural gas pricing is at the most favorable level in six years. Businesses
that explore other alternative sources can likely achieve significant
savings beginning in the first month. As alternative long distance carriers
were able to transmit via existing telephone lines, natural gas from
alternative providers will flow through existing deliver networks.
“Same pipes but with lower monthly bills will be our mantra” said Tom
O’Connor, Managing Consultant with Zurvita. “Through our partnership with
MxEnergy, one of the largest independent energy providers in North America,
we have exclusive direct marketing rights in California to offer the nearly
3 million businesses in California a choice of natural gas provider and cost
savings through our ZurvitaChoice product. By simply looking at recent bills
and comparing to our unit pricing fresh off the computer screen that
morning, our prospective customers will know immediately if a change of
provider will benefit them and can take action immediately. In addition,
commercial customers can lock in their unit cost for up to one year should
they choose to do so. Having the ability to lock in unit pricing for 12
months is an added bonus especially now being at or near six year pricing
lows” added O’Connor.
