About Us:

The Southern Classic Roundball Invitational (SCRI) is known as one of the largest Pro-Am basketball tournaments in the southeast. Michael and Alicia Reckord founded this "grass-roots" event in 2002. Held every third weekend in August, the SCRI started with ten teams primarily from the Metro Atlanta area and a few out of state teams. These teams were derived of players with the ability and desire to play at the highest level with limited avenues to do so. The SCRI has since grown to over 26 men's teams from across the nation. Top teams have been represented from over thirteen states as well as the U.S. Virgin Island team with assistant coach Jim Harrick, former head coach at UCLA and Georgia. The SCRI is well known for having current and ex-NBA, college and over-seas players, and those who have played major D-1 basketball.

Current and ex-NBA players include: Josh Smith, Jarred Jack, Damien Wilkins, Steve Smith, Dale Davis, Willie & Shandon Anderson, Jabari Smith, Grant Long, Jermaine Jones, Dion Glover, Chris Dudley, Roshawn McLeod and Anthony "Pig" Miller. College players have included: Brian Oliver, B.J. Elder, Tony Akins, Ezra Williams, Brian McHenry, Charleston Young, Brandon Robinson and Adrian Jones.

Community Contribution

The SCRI believes in giving back to the community. The Reckord's have always recognized that it is more important to give than it is to receive. Although they have not always been able to make financial contributions to organizations they realize that awareness is just as important. Each year a local charitable organization has been selected to support and bring awareness to within the community. Past organizations supported by the SCRI are: Covenant House Georgia, National Mental Health Association of Georgia and The Mike Glenn Foundation. Booths were set up offering literature to over 1000 youth and adults combined over the course of the weekend.

The Atlanta Hawks have provided games, prizes, and Hawks paraphernalia to kids attending the tournament. Additionally, over the past three years Nike and Jordan Brand have played an intricate part in the success of SCRI's ability to ensure that every child attending the event walk away with a gift.

SCRI has teamed with several local businesses for support over the years. Community sponsors include: Nike, Jordan Brand, Gatorade, DNA Energy Drink, Atlanta Hawks, Athletes Foot, Pepsi, The Custom Shop, Friedman's Shoes, Cool Fitted Caps, Blue Moon Pizza, Wing Zone, Apple Bees, Marietta Trophy, Dime Magazine, 300 Atlanta, Urban Soul Upscale Event Promotions, Dave & Busters Marietta, Tom James.
