Just about everyone that I know lost a LOT of money last year in their pension plan or their retirement plan. I know that my pension plan through the law firm I used to work for took a serious dive. Then there is social security. I wonder how long that will last? My husband just started getting his social security and let me tell you, that check does not go far. It will be at least twelve (12) years before I can start collecting mine. Wonder if it will still be there?

About two (2) years ago I started reading articles about retirement income planning. Every article that I read pretty much amounted to the same thing: how to save for retirement; invest for retirement, stay on top of your investments; pay attention to the tax on retirement income laws; and seek out a financial planner. Well that is all just hunky dory if you have investments to play with, which we did not. So what were we going to do, especially with two boys attending college. I was seriously freaking out over this.

So I started looking into ways that I could bring in an extra income working online out of my home. Do you know how many people told me that the odds of anyone finding legitimate work online are slim to none? I have to admit, I was a little leery myself, but I was tired of worrying about what we were going to do. Anyway, to make a long story short, I now work full-time out of my home doing affiliate marketing on the internet and we are no longer worried about not having enough money to retire in the lifestyle we are used to.

That is what led me to write this article. It just got me thinking about how many other people are worrying about this same thing, and why not tell them that, believe it or not, there are legitimate ways to earn extra money online. If you are seriously worried about your income after you retire, take matters into your own hands right now. It is possible to start a legitimate business online but it is a slow process, very time consuming at the beginning, and not something that happens overnight. If you have a couple of years before your retirement, start looking for something now. I chose affiliate marketing because then I just had to promote products for other companies and I did not have to mess with any shipping problems or taking payments. It was a slow process and I made a lot of mistakes at the beginning, but I was really determined to make this work. I finally joined a program that trained me properly, taught me step-by-step what I had to do, and gave me assignments I had to complete before moving on to the next step.

Please don't jump into the first opportunity that comes your way. Do your research!!! You thoroughly want to understand everything there is to know about whatever program you have chosen. You also want to enjoy what you are doing, so pick something that is going to motivate you and keep your interest because this is your new business and, hopefully, one that you are going to have for years to come. This should be something that you can do even after you retire from your 40 hour a week job because, as you are working out of your home, why not continue doing this for your enjoyment.
