My personal experience reveals that those who choose not to work as
an employee have certain distinguishable characteristics that set them
apart from the majority of people. Among those characteristics are
having a specific dream, strong motivation and that they understand that
in order to help themselves, they must help others first.
I have dealt with many individuals over the years and by far, the most
successful (financially, emotionally and spiritually) have what I see as an
“employer mentality). This is not to imply that those individuals that do
not carry these traits are unsuccessful. The point of this article is to
reveal distinct differences in thought to achieve the same result.
Here are two main differences that I have observed between an employee
and an employer:
Many people who attempt a home business have little or no experience
running a business. You can easily get caught up in the "employee
mentality", that is, expecting huge results from things right away. Employee
mentality doesn’t like to take risks, wants security and is afraid of
re-inventing the wheel. The employee mentality is constantly seeking ways to
benefit themselves.
As a business owner, you will need to convert to a much different
"employer mentality". The employer mentality is always trying to figure out
new ways to do things, takes risks, prefers the thrill of the unknown and
desires creating new concepts from scratch, even at the risk of re-inventing
the wheel. The employer mentality is constantly trying to figure out new
ways to provide more to other people.
If you are considering a home business, or any business, you will need to
prepare and then convert mentally before real success will be achieved. Use
mentors to help you understand the difference in thought pattern. It is
great to own and run a business of your own! For those that choose to,
prepare your mind to deal with things that most people will not.
If you are properly positioned for success on your own…..you will
succeed. If you attempt to run your business with an employee mentality,
you’ll be back a job very soon.
