March 21, 2009 ( PowerHomeBiz ) - Pleasanton, CA -  Downtown Pleasanton just got fresher with the arrival of Thriving Ink & Co., a new independent clothing and art boutique. More than 80 artisan t-shirt designs share retail space with the hottest in urban sportswear, casual, and streetwear, including new and used jeans, hoodies, indie fashions, handcrafted accessories, and baby tees, as well as art prints.

Started as an online shop in February 2008, Thriving Ink “honors and celebrates the achievements and accomplishments” of its artists and partners, and stresses integrity, diversity, and originality in all company aspects. Working with handpicked artists from around the globe, Thriving Ink exclusively showcases and promotes their designs on sweatshop-free, American-made tees, while also offering customers a chance to “be a human canvas and wear what they feel.” Apparel’s just one aspect of the new downtown location: along with playing killer tunes (Rilo Kiley, anyone?) the shop will eventually host swap nights, swag parties, art shows, and other live events, and is currently establishing relationships with local jewelers, designers, and additional DIYers to display their wares. The shop will even include state-of-the-art Custom T-Shirt design equipment, for one of a kind shirts. It will be installed by the end of April.

Thriving Ink’s founder is successful area businesswoman Brenda Dronkers, creator of the inflatable party place Pump it Up. In her latest endeavor, Dronkers pairs polished entrepreneurial skills with the passions of her two, college-aged kids, Jenelle and Matt, who double as business partners. In addition to maintaining the company website and handling all aspects of its photography, Jenelle and Matt individually select each work of art screened onto tees—everything from Ryan Alamillo’s nature-inspired Woody Tree to AJ Dimarucot’s analog-tribute, Mix Tape. But for Dronkers, incorporating community input—especially from local teens—means just as much. “We’re currently looking for middle and high school students to join our Teen Advisory Committee,” says Dronkers. “They’ll assist in creating trends, choosing designs and T-shirt types, promoting parties, and more.”

The Pleasanton shop celebrates its official Grand Opening Friday, April 3. “We will not only have the entire line of Thriving Ink tees,” says Jenelle, a 21 year old Amador graduate and co-owner, “but also some of the best independent brands you may not know about, YET.” One of Thriving Ink’s favorite local jewelry line, Ampersand Designs, will be carrying their witty, eclectic jewelry in the shop.

Along with visiting Pleasanton’s downtown store, fans of Thriving Ink can shop for tees and keep current on upcoming sales and events at www.thrivingink.com . “Thriving Ink & Co. – Pleasanton, will be constant work in progress, as we launch new lines and plan new events based on what our community wants”, remarks Matt Dronkers, 19 year old co-owner and former Foothill and Amador student. The tech-savvy company also has pages on myspace, Facebook and Flicker, along with You Tube videos highlighting their latest model auditions and photo shoots. “We’re thrilled to bring a new injection of excitement to the Pleasanton’s downtown area,” says Brenda. “There are so many amazing shops—we’re thankful to be part of them. If you haven’t been shopping downtown lately, now is the time!”
