New York, NY ---
Dr. Linda Eagle, Founder and President of Edcomm Banker's Academy will speak
about the importance of Elder Financial Abuse (EFA) training to a group of
law enforcement officials, bank fraud investigators, and representatives
from Commerce Bank.
(news continued below)
The presentation is scheduled for February 29, 2008 in Westchester, NY.
Together with People's United Bank, Dr. Eagle will address the damaging
effects of elder financial abuse, and how EFA training from Edcomm Banker's
Academy can educate members of the banking community to be aware of the red
flags of abuse. As part of her presentation, Dr. Eagle will discuss the
upsurge in elder financial abuse, the status of state and federal laws
protecting seniors, and the responsibility of banks and other financial
services companies to recognize and report such abuse.
Angela DeLeon of People's United Bank said, "It's wonderful that Edcomm
Banker's Academy offers this training to their banking clients, but it is
even more important that they are speaking to the public about the dangers
of elder financial abuse and educating the community on this dangerous type
of fraud."
With more than 5 million cases per year, financial abuse of elders is the
#1 crime committed against persons age 65 and older. Currently, 18 states
and Washington, D.C. have passed laws that require employees of banks,
credit unions and money service businesses to report suspected cases of
elder financial abuse. Another 32 states recommend it. Congress is expected
to pass the Elder Justice Act, which will make this federal law.
Focus on Elder Financial Abuse, from Edcomm Banker's Academy, is a
comprehensive eLearning program providing training on issues related to
elder financial abuse. The course covers: defining elder financial abuse and
the laws governing it, detecting the red flags of elder financial abuse, and
reporting elder financial abuse properly. Focus on Elder Financial Abuse is
geared towards teaching participants how to identify elder abuse and how to
protect both their customers and the bank, with accurate, compliant
reporting.
