Romie Lane Dental Group has recently welcomed Dr. Theresa Asbury-Falo to
join their dental practice. Dr. Asbury-Falo is representative of a current
trend in dentistry. According to the American Dental Association, women make
up approximately 40% of the students currently enrolled in dental schools in
our country.
(news continued below)
In the United States, prior to the early 1970's, dentists were almost
exclusively male, while roughly half of dentists in Greece were women, about
one-third in France, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, and almost four-fifths in
Russia, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania. The two main reasons for this gender
shift are: the women's liberation and civil rights movements of the 1960's
and early 1970's and the impact that birth control had on opening the doors
for women in professional careers and choosing when to have children.
According to a recent analysis in the Journal of Medical Associations,
women are able to adapt, respond and have a friendlier disposition than
their male counterparts. They are more at ease, less stressed and handle
their patients in a more easygoing manner. Female dentists often times
demonstrate a warmer, more caring nature with their patients as well.
Patients benefit from seeing a female dentist because they tend to take more
time with their patients, giving them more comprehensive and compassionate
care. Women practitioners are often more interested in building
relationships with their patients as well.
We believe that this trend in dentistry will continue and is a very
positive progression for both dentistry as a whole and the patients that
seek dental care. Visit our website at:
