Avalon Technology and Nexus iSR, LLC are pleased to report the
integration of the Nexus HawkTM into the Regional Wireless Broadband Network
(RWBN) in Washington DC. The RWBN is the nation’s first Public Safety 700MHz
EVDO high-speed network in the United States. The RWBN is a joint effort by
local governments to provide secure, high-speed wireless connectivity to
first responders around the Washington DC area over a privately built
network.

Nexus iSR’s product allows fire and police vehicles to remotely access
the private network while in the field with the added ability to access the
public cellular network. In the case of an emergency, fire and police
vehicles throughout the region can communicate with each other and their
command centers over the proprietary network. “With our product, proprietary
network cards, as well as commercial network cards can operate on the same
device”, said Eric Sargent, President of Nexus iSR. “This enables officers
to roam in and out of the public and private networks seamlessly when
needed.” Because the Nexus product also has GPS capability, central command
locations can monitor the location of all of the vehicles in the region,
regardless of jurisdiction, can respond quickly to an emergency. Nexus iSR
and Avalon worked closely with the DC Government over the past several
months to engineer the desired solution.
